Freight Forwarding Training

New National Certificate of Freight Forwarding Training Provider, IVS, is here for the 'long haul'

Independent Verification Services (IVS) commenced delivery of Tranzqual ITO’s qualification, National Certificate in Freight Forwarding, effective 1 April.  The move came after Agoge Training Limited made the decision to step down as training provider to focus on other areas of their business.

IVS, a Private Training Establishment (PTE), is already well known as one of New Zealand’s leading biosecurity training providers and has invested heavily in building new training resources to ensure the ongoing success of the programme.

Glenn Turner, formerly from Agoge, has joined the team at IVS to ensure this change in training provider is as seamless as possible for trainees who are already partway through completion of the qualification.  “We are delighted that Glenn has joined our team, as he not only brings an extensive knowledge of the freight forwarding sector with him, but he also has a good understanding of the needs of individual trainees and their progress to date” said Peter Webb, IVS Chief Executive.

Well trained employees are an asset to any business.  With an industry based qualification, employers can reward and retain key staff by developing their skills, knowledge and on the job proficiency.

“We’ve taken historical feedback on board to develop a very different training experience for our trainees” said Mr. Webb “Much of the training was delivered in a classroom situation.  This may have suited school leavers seeking a career within the freight forwarding sector, but we believe a classroom environment does not suit everyone, particularly some of our trainees who have been working for a while and who have made the decision to complete their qualification as a way of formally recognizing their industry expertise”.

IVS has developed a brand new online resource for the freight forwarding programme so trainees can work much more autonomously and at a pace that works for them.

The website enables trainees to view their individual training progress, as well as access course material, study guides, assessment criteria, latest news and course related discussion.

The freight forwarding industry as a whole is very broad, yet often companies or their staff will have an extremely specialised and narrow focus.  IVS firmly believes trainees can support and add value to their learning outcomes by tapping into the specialised knowledge of others by taking advantage of the resources available to them such as the trainee discussion board.

In addition trainees are able to view and register for upcoming weekly workshops or monthly Bootcamp.

The key point of difference within IVS training programme is that trainees can tailor the programme to suit their own style of learning.   A schedule of topics for the weekly workshops is available and trainees can pick and choose which classes they’d like to attend, or which unit standards they are confident to complete in their own time.  IVS also offers Bootcamp, held every second month, providing an ideal environment for trainees to complete assessments and catch up on course work.

“We are here for the long haul.  We have made significant investment in this programme and are totally committed to delivering a quality learning solution that is fit for purpose.  IVS is looking forward to working closely with Tranzqual ITO and the Freight Forwarding sector as a whole to deliver real value through this training programme” says Peter Webb.
